How to Make a Paper Airplane That Flies Far and Straight

Basically, paper plane wings having rectangular shapes are meant for slow speeds and they have good gliding capacity. The shorter it gets, the speeder it goes. It will have better speed, maneuverability and it could be the paper airplane that flies far. However, far flying paper airplanes will need the ability to perform like a dart when you toss them and they should balance themselves from the turbulence. The main purpose of designing this paper plane is to make it fly in a straight path. In order to know how to make a paper airplane that flies far and straight and fast, you need to understand the wing shape and its durability to withstand the sturdy wind.

Two minutes for Noodles! isn't it? Three minutes for Paper planes! It's that simple with liftndrift.com*

Supplies Required:

  • A4 Sheet of Paper or a Foolscap Paper with 70-90 GSM for origami plane
  • Ruler or Flat thick object to flatten the folded edges to make a strong crease.

Step 1:

  • Keep the A4 sheet of paper in Portrait orientation and fold them from Left to Right equally as shown inFig.1
  • UNFOLD them once done.

Step 2:

  • Keep the A4 sheet in Portrait mode over your work table or flat floor
  • Fold the top right section edge to the left side edge line and match it straight without doing any mismatch
  • Unfold once you are done.

Step 3:

  • Fold the Corner top left corner to the right side edge boundary just like you did for step 2
  • Crease the fold properly and unfold! For reference see the Fig.4

Step 4:

  • Fold the right corner to match the adjacent line
  • If you have doubts compare fig.4 and fig.5

Step 5:

  • Fold the left corner to the adjacent line just like you did for the step 4
  • Compare fig.5 and fig.6 for doubts
  • Paper airplane that flies far has to be tossed in between the angle of 45 – 60 degrees approximately to get maximum reach of distance.

Step 6:

  • Fold the nose down to the bottom of the plane and match it
  • Make sure the straight crease line matches right.

Step 7:

  • From the top, mark 1/3rd of the section by pen or by look reference.

Origami Alert

Step 8:

  • Fold up the nose of the marked 1/3rd
  • Then, fold the extras inwards on both sides as shown in the fig.8
  • UNFOLD them once done.

Step 9:

  • With the previous fold as the reference, Kindly fold the side extras to the half inwards
  • Refer fig.8 and fig.9

Step 10:

  • With the previous fold lying on a point. Fold the nose down and crease it.

Step 11:

  • Mountain fold the airplane into half
  • Make sure the sections are symmetry

Step 12:

  • Fold the wings down, just like shown in the fig.12
  • Do the same on the other side too.

Step 13:

  • Yes! You have made it. Make sure you find a hangar or a garden to fly your paper airplane.
  • Paper airplane that flies far and straight will definitely look like this!

This aircraft is an excellent one to play it indoors as well as it fits well for outside conditions because of its thicker wings. Also, I would personally advise you to make a paper airplane with printer paper. The more you go on making a detailed design you need to make a plane with lightweight paper to help it become an aerodynamic body. If you are organizing as a group of people to play with this plane you need to mark your paper airplane with its segments like Flap, Aileron, Fuselage, and Elevators with a pen. This will help you in the future when you are designing a mini RC flier to get a detailed understanding of the aerodynamic body. This will clearly tell you how the design will affect your flying, also makes you think about how can you rectify your problems.

Paper airplane that flies far and straight Flying Technique:

  • Hold the Plane behind the centre of the plane's gravity centre
  • Keep your left foot slightly forward and launch it in 30 – 40 degrees angle, throw it steadily with a medium force. If it fails, tweak the tail wing slightly up and try again.
  • Try different angles and forces now! Wow, That's how one learns properly with more trying and flying. Kudos!
